Desire for Standards Tops List of Ag Data Predictions for ’23

What does the future hold for the use of agricultural data? While there is no crystal ball to predict the ever-evolving uses of information generated on farms, it is clear that data will play an increasingly important role in enhancing productivity. Todd Janzen, founding partner of Janzen Schroeder Ag Law and ADT Administrator, shares insight into what might be on the horizon.

“As technology advances, so does the desire for standards in the industry,” says Janzen. He notes there will likely be more consolidation of organizations collecting data as well as more demand from the USDA and policy makers for ag data, making common standards even more important. “Anonymization and open source research illustrate the need for consistent terminology,” Janzen says. “We all need to be speaking the same language.”

Consumer demand for traceability also figures into the ag data discussion as the food chain works to be increasingly transparent.
